While having a good talk about your struggles can be helpful, it isn’t for everybody.
For some it is really hard to put into words what is going on inside themselves or what has passed throughout their lives. Others are such smooth talkers they evade all attempts to get to the bottom of it. This is where art therapy comes into play.
Creating art is something people most often only did as a child, making it easier for the subconscious to find its way to the surface. Even though it can be a little outside of your comfort zone, it soon becomes a mindful activity that gives you space to be fully present with what wants to be seen. As we are working on your struggles, you develop new skills while creating.

The pieces you make aren’t chosen randomly.
A session usually starts with a short talk about how you are, followed by a warming up. This can either be a small art exercise, but could also very well focus more on our body awareness. From there we continue with the main activity, art making.
Each artistic exercise is chosen knowing where you are in that moment and where you want to be after the program. In that way the exercises can both be soothing and challenging, as it will mirror your behavior and thoughts in certain ways.
Depending on your question, we will work with either drawing, painting, sculpturing or a mixture of those. For one the focus might lay on form drawing, for another it is best to dive into clay or to create landscapes build up from a symphony of colors.
There is no need to have any skills in making art, it might even help to start without a clue, for it gives you space to experiment. In that way there is no fixed idea of how something is supposed to go. And by mentioning so, while a pretty result is a nice bonus, the focus lies mostly on the process of creation. At the end of a session there will be a moment to see what or if the eventual image has something to tell as well.
Are you up to get your hands dirty and your mind clear?
