The Real Challenge of Today’s Society
Individual therapy is of course often a good way to get a closer look into parts in life that are troubling you. And depending on the things you come across as an expat yourself, it is a good place to start (you can read more about that here). But in the end, what makes it tough to be an expat is the lack of community.
These days it is our number one habit to focus on our individual path, to look inward what we can improve or what stands in our way. While that can be a tough process in itself, it can also be a way to not face what we actually need: to build the community around us. Especially when you moved abroad, your inner circle is not as within reach as you might like. Finding ways to get yourself out there is one way to get there, but we can also bring the community to you, by creating communal art.
When the Beauty of Art is Found in the Community
Communal art is a lovely way to get to know your neighborhood better. It gives you a chance to learn what goes on in the streets and to build new friendships. Maybe you have noticed on your way to work that the streets look rather dull, or that people are living past each other instead of with each other. Maybe there is a beautiful playground or park that just doesn’t look that beautiful anymore. I think we’ve all come across something like it, something of which we think: “Such a pity, if only someone would put some attention to it, it would be so much nicer.”
I am here to let that someone be you.
I know I know. Why me? Where to start? Who would care?
I tell you, your neighborhood will care. Your community will care. And you already care. I am just here to give you a little nudge and some guidance into the right direction. Together we will look at what might draw your attention and how we can turn that little spark into a magnificent plan of fireworks. Not only will I tackle the creative side with you, but also the more daunting side of getting your local government on board. By the time we have set things in motion, others will join you and it will truly become a project run by and for the community.
