Incoming Project: Felt & Craftsmanship

As a respond to the JohnHegenpart Innovation Price of VeensWelzijn I enlisted with The Felt & Craftmenship Project. It is created to transform the quiet diversity into abundant coherence within the community of Veenendaal, The Netherlands.
Felting is a beautiful craft that both needs and symbolizes the communal foundation. Loose fluffs of wool are placed on a background layer of wool. By covering it in some soapy water and gently rubbing the then wet wool, will make that the fibers of the wool hook into each other. The more we rub, the tighter it gets. Just as a community becomes stronger by engaging more and more.
For the project two groups will be making their own 200x100cm felted tapestry. Creating such large pieces requires preparation and the help of several hands. In total there will be three days per group. The first day consists of getting into the act of creativity and to have a dialogue about what community means to you and what part(s) you play in it yourself. The second day we will make the tapestry. On the third day both groups come together, will discuss both tapestries and will create one last tapestry together that connects the other two tapestries. Three separate artworks become one, just as diverse groups form one community.
The artwork will get a prominent place within the city of Veenendaal.
