The Why
Online therapy is becoming more and more common. And while it might not be the most obvious to bring art therapy to the online table, there are a few reasons why it should:
- You get to choose your own workspace. With the materials at hand, there is quite a chance you get creative more often. Who knows, maybe it sparks an interest in art in ways you hadn’t thought of before.
- If you prefer to talk to someone in your native language, the chances are bigger to find them online when you live abroad. For the Dutchies out there, ik ben er ook voor jou!
- You already have enough on your plate while integrating into a new country and culture. When diving into your own healing process, it is alright to save energy by staying at the one place that is familiar to you, your home.
- Having a few sessions online first might lower the bar to find someone who does work in your area. We want you to feel more connected to your own place after all.
The How
It doesn’t take much, except for a desk or a table with enough space for A3 paper, a computer or laptop to run the meeting on and a phone so I can see what you are actually doing.
Ideally you have the possibility to have a camera viewing your work and another one that views yourself. If not, it takes some more shifting around, but that will work too.
When you decide to work with me, I will give you information about the materials that are worth having. You might already have some color pencils laying around or some paint from your kids. Give those a try and see if you are comfortable working with them. Do they give enough colour to your liking? How is the grip in your hand? In case a certain type of material is needed, clay for example, I will let you know in advance. You can read a post about finding materials and their different qualities here.
